The Book is out!

Unreal Game Development

Okay, so I spent about 7 months working originally in a raw build of Unreal Engine 3 from Midway. This was around the time when Midway's Stranglehold. This game came out a couple of years ago. Last year I began to write the book using Unreal Tournament III. Then at the end I moved to UDKwhen it was finally released.

A lot has changed, but that's always going to be the case! This month they're adding a whole new chunk for  iOS. Heck, in the last two or three months there's been little hints with "Mobile" options showing up all over the place in the editor.

The UI is in flux as well, the Asset Manager is completely new and it's only been in there for the last few months! It's replacing the old "Generic Browser" but im sure it's going to get replaced with yet another version in a few months anyway.

So does that mean that when a book comes out its obsolete? Heck no, the Unreal Game Development book has tons of tutorials that talk about things that are not going to change any time soon. It's teaching a lot of the basic principals that are the fundamental building blocks of how unreal works, stuff that won't change. At least not any time soon.

There are some tutorials for 3D Studio Max, and Gimp in there as well, so go get my book!

Working on scheduling for a shmup for kinect and...

Just started the prototype stage, armed with a 20 page design doc with some illustrations I have to start to do a bunch of more concept design and game design work before the rest of the team gets started on it next Monday. Yay! so exciting.

Also.

Wacom Art Pen as seen here is pretty damn cool. the rotation feels much more natural than using tilt alone.
Drawing basic shapes and shading with a wide flat brush makes things immediately more fun. and well, a part of the process is having some fun. that and painter is a lot of fun to paint it, aside from a bunch of quirks like bad screen refreshing and a few performance issues.

Ati vs Nvidia... 580 vs 6850

That's a lot to stuff into a PC case.
I do wonder where all of this is going. When will we have a pair of video cards that you plug a CPU into?
